A massive sound with full projection and a rich, resonant tone, combined with a fine, crisp snare response. To achieve this sound, the Japanese company Tama gave the Starphonic snare drums a new hoop, lug, and strainer design, mounted on a selection of uniquely constructed shells.
 
Perhaps the most important innovations are the "Freedom Lugs" and "Claw Hooks": Thanks to this new design, the tension claws can be easily folded away after slightly loosening the screws. The "Grooved Hoop" tension hoop can be quickly removed and reattached in this way, enabling extremely fast and uncomplicated head changes.
 
This system is further refined by a quickly removable butt end to speed up the resonator head change. The fine adjustments of the snare wire are thus 100% retained, eliminating the need for further fine-tuning.
